LITRICO FASHION HOUSE, Historical Trademark of National Interest
Over seventy-five years of Italian Men’s Haute Couture, documented over time and recognized by the Italian State.
On August 3, 2026, following a thorough preliminary investigation, the Italian Patent and Trademark Office of the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy accepted the application submitted by Litrico Fashion House and authorized the registration of the LITRICO brand in the Special Register of Historical Trademarks of National Interest.
An institutional recognition of great importance, attesting to the continuity over time of a name born in Rome in 1951 which has become, through three generations of the Litrico family, one of the most authentic expressions of Italian Men’s Haute Couture culture.
The Special Register, established at the Italian Patent and Trademark Office, is reserved for trademarks registered for at least fifty years or for those whose effective and continuous use for at least half a century can be demonstrated, connected to national manufacturing enterprises of excellence and to the history of the Italian territory.
Having a long history is not enough; you must be able to prove it
Registration in the Register is not automatically granted to long-established companies.
To obtain recognition, it is necessary to accurately reconstruct and document the continuity of the brand, demonstrating that it has been genuinely used over the decades to identify the company’s products, services, and activities.
The regulations provide that such continuity can be proven through commercial documents, catalogs, photographs, press advertisements, labels, invoices, promotional materials, and other reliable evidence of the brand’s use. The Office then examines the documentation submitted and verifies the existence of a history that is not only declared but concretely demonstrable.
For Litrico Fashion House, this journey required long and meticulous research within its own Historical Archive.
Fifty years reconstructed, document by document
To accompany the application, an extensive historical dossier was prepared, consisting of a selection of approximately five documentary records for each year, spanning a period of at least fifty years.
Newspaper articles, pages from Italian and international magazines, photographs, publications, official documents, and materials from the Maison’s activities made it possible to track the presence and continuous use of the LITRICO name over time.
It was not simply a matter of collecting memories or images from the past, but of reconstructing a true documentary chain: year after year, decade after decade, every piece of evidence contributed to demonstrating the continuity of the brand and its uninterrupted link with Italian Men’s Haute Couture.
Every page, every photograph, every letterhead, and every press article became the threads of a larger tapestry, capable of uniting post-war Rome with the Maison’s present.
The recognition obtained in 2026 is therefore the result of over half a century of documented activity, but also of the foresight with which the Litrico family has preserved the memory of their business over time.
An Archive that safeguards the history of Italian Haute Couture
The documentation submitted comes from the Historical Archive of Litrico Fashion House, kept at the Maison and declared by the Archival Superintendency of Lazio, by decree of November 7, 2008, to be of particularly important historical interest.
The Archive preserves materials related to the creative and production activities started by Angelo Litrico and continued first by his younger brothers Franco and Giusi, and then by Luca, Franco’s eldest son and Angelo’s nephew, together with his wife Stefania: correspondence with clients, Heads of State, artists, and international personalities; photographs of fashion shows, travels, and events; corporate documents; publications and an extensive press review spanning the history of Italian costume and fashion from the second half of the twentieth century.
The recognition as a Historical Trademark of National Interest thus joins the protection already granted to the Historical Archive, creating a particularly significant link between two complementary dimensions:
The brand, which represents the continuity of the business, and the Archive, which safeguards its memory.
The Litrico Fashion House Archive is therefore not a static or purely celebratory collection. It is a living heritage that continues to fuel the research, aesthetic identity, communication, and cultural vision of the Maison.
It was precisely this heritage that allowed the history of LITRICO FASHION HOUSE to present itself for institutional examination not as a narrative entrusted to memory, but as a reality supported by evidence, dates, and documents.
The LITRICO name and the Winged Lion
Alongside the LITRICO name, the Winged Lion has always lived, an emblem personally designed by the founder Angelo Litrico.
Its origin contains a deeply autobiographical trait: the lion recalled the founder’s zodiac sign, while the wings evoked his name, Angelo.
Lion and Angel, strength and wings: the Winged Lion.
Over the generations, the Maison has preserved this symbol, reinterpreting it through floral motifs and more contemporary colors, without altering its original meaning.
The Winged Lion thus tells the same philosophy that guides Litrico Fashion House: safeguarding roots without renouncing evolution, keeping identity intact while continuously opening it to the future.
A recognition that looks ahead
Registration in the Special Register allows the Maison to use the official “Historical Trademark of National Interest” logo in its commercial and promotional activities. Since 2025, the international version “Italian Historical Trademark” has also been available, intended to enhance the recognition on foreign markets as well.
For LITRICO FASHION HOUSE, however, this result does not represent a final destination.
Being recognized as a Historical Trademark means taking on a further responsibility: to continue protecting, organizing, digitizing, and transmitting the heritage received, so that it can be known by new generations and contribute to the international dissemination of Italian dressing culture.
It means continuing to produce in Italy, preserving and passing on artisanal knowledge, investing in training, enhancing the Archive, and developing new forms of dialogue with institutions, museums, universities, and cultural entities. In line with its nature as a Benefit Corporation, Litrico Fashion House combines these objectives with a concrete commitment to the protection and promotion of cultural heritage, responsibility towards the planet and its resources, and care for Clients through relationships based on authenticity, quality, transparency, and respect.
Since 1951, an Italian story destined to continue
From the first Atelier opened by Angelo Litrico in Rome in 1951 to the current leadership of the third generation, the name of LITRICO FASHION HOUSE has spanned more than seventy years of Italian history.
It has dressed statesmen, film stars, artists, writers, professionals, and clients from all over the world; it has taken Italian Men’s Haute Couture beyond national borders and has helped build that Made in Italy culture that still represents one of our country’s most admired heritages today.
Registration in the Special Register of Historical Trademarks of National Interest now makes this continuity officially recognizable.
It does not only celebrate what the Maison has been, but strengthens what it continues to be: an Italian Men’s Haute Couture House founded on culture, creativity, craftsmanship, and the ability to pass on its knowledge.
Because history, when it is preserved, documented, and shared, does not belong only to the past.
It becomes the material with which to design the future.
